Is unwanted behavior making it difficult to bond with your pet?

Whether it’s a simple house-training issue or something more concerning, like aggression, unwanted pet behavior can be stressful for everyone. The experienced team at Victoria Road Animal Hospital can help restore peace and balance back into your home.

Understanding the Problem

The key to overcoming animal behavior issues lies in identifying the problem. First, we must rule out any potential medical causes. This is important, because many ailments have symptoms that can easily be mistaken for bad behavior. For instance, a cat that urinates outside the litter box may not be acting out but may actually be experiencing a health issue.

Once we’ve established a clean bill of health, the next step is pinpointing the behavior we’re dealing with. This is critical because in many cases, a larger problem may manifest itself in smaller ways. For example, destructive behavior when left alone may be a smaller symptom of the bigger problem of separation anxiety. We’ll work with you to determine precisely what the situation is so we can address it most effectively.

Some of the behavior problems we can assist with include:

  • House training
  • Excessive barking
  • Jumping
  • Digging
  • Biting
  • Destructive behavior
  • Aggression
  • Fear/anxiety

A Plan That Gets Results

With a proper diagnosis in hand, the final step is developing a strategy for overcoming the behavior problem once and for all. There are many ways we can approach a behavior issue. Whether it’s positive reinforcement, rewards, training, or something else, we’ll work with you to create a customized plan that gets results.

Don’t let unwanted behavior stand in the way of bonding with your beloved pet. Contact Victoria Road Animal Hospital and let us help you enjoy the loving, peaceful relationship you both deserve.

My partner and I have had great experiences at Victoria Road Animal Hospital after switching from a different vet clinic that we felt didn't care as much for our kitties. At each visit that we have had at Victoria Road AH, they have gone above and beyond to make us feel like they care about our cats. Recently, one of our cats had stopped eating for multiple days. At the appointment, the Dr took the time and effort to explain our treatment options and, later, explained the results of the bloodwork that was run. They always listen to our concerns and it has never felt like the appointments are rushed, even standard appts like annual vaccines. The front end staff are also very welcoming and friendly. Thank you for all the work you do! :)

I feel very grateful to be a client of VRAH and would give them 6/5 starts if I could. The entire staff are absolutely phenomenal and clearly love and care for each of their patients as their own. As the guardian of a very difficult fear reactive dog, it means a lot that this team sees him for the great dog he is, despite his challenges, and they are always willing to meet him where he is at. Drs Harris, Melillo, and Buchanan have all been extremely supportive and patient with our boy, and have always gracefully allowed us to cut appointments short if he is too overwhelmed. The RVTs and vet assistant/client care staff are beyond exceptional as well, they treat even the smallest concerns with great care. The VRAH team are so communicative and ensure that you always understand what and why they recommend for your pet and always provide owners with all of the appropriate options. Normally I am not in the room for procedures, however today I was present and want to specifically express my appreciation for Dr Buchanan, RVT Emma, and Anna for their wonderfully compassionate, expert work with Whiskey today, and their thoughtful advice and help with Rye. Truly a top class hospital that I feel very safe entrusting my four-legged family member’s health with.

Dr Harris is super helpful and explains everything very well. We go for both our 17 year old dog and 4 year old dog.
