Teresa

Teresa

Registered Veterinary Technician

Teresa grew up on a small hobby farm, outside London, Ontario, surrounded by a variety of small and large animals. Through her countless experiences feeding, caring for, and watching these animals grow and thrive, she found herself longing to learn more about how to enrich, enhance, and extend their lives. A career in veterinary medicine seemed like the natural choice, so she decided to become a veterinary technician.

Following her high school graduation, Teresa took a pre-health science certification course at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. She then spent several years gaining hands-on experience at various animal hospitals, doing everything from reception to kennel work to veterinary assistance before finally completing the RVT program at Seneca College. She has since spent the last 24+ years in that role and has loved every minute.

Professionally, Teresa has a special interest in cytology and bloodwork. Being able to assist one of the doctors in determining whether there’s an infection or illness present is a very gratifying part of the job. She also happens to have a knack for comforting and reassuring the nervous patients who come through our doors. Teresa is always there to offer some kind words or a gentle cuddle.

When she’s not at work, you can usually find Teresa exploring new hiking trails, visiting floral greenhouses, browsing local outdoor markets, or seeking out thrift store treasures (especially books). Her family consists of two grown children and a tortoiseshell cat named Tinga, who was found at the age of 6 months roaming the railway tracks in Georgetown. Tinga is a sweet, spunky little lady who brings comfort and joy to her humans every day.

Emma

Emma

Registered Veterinary Technician

Growing up, Emma always planned to pursue a career in the medical field. After beginning her post-secondary education for nursing at McMaster University, Emma quickly discovered she preferred patients of the four-legged variety, so she decided to switch gears and pursue a career in the veterinary field instead. Turns out, combining her passion for medicine with her love of animals was the perfect fit!

Emma completed the Veterinary Technician program at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus’ and earned her RVT title in 2021. She joined the VRAH team shortly thereafter. Professionally, Emma loves being able to connect with each individual patient and adjusting her care style to put them at ease and make them feel safe and comfortable.

Currently, Emma lives in Fergus with her husband and their five fur-babies, including four dogs (Archie, Sami, Bowie, and Georgie) and a cat (Fidget). The Ribeiros enjoy a very active lifestyle with their pups. Archie is the boss, Sami is the only lady and acts as the princess, Bowie keeps everyone smiling and giggling with his goofy personality, and Georgie is the baby and is definitely treated as such.

Lesley

Lesley

Hospital Manager and Registered Veterinary Technician

Growing up in Muskoka, Lesley’s family always had pets. In fact, the constant companionship of animals shaped a large part of her childhood. Over the years, Lesley’s natural desire to help animals and humans alike only grew, guiding her toward a career that would allow her to do both on a daily basis. Supporting others and earning the trust of animals has proven to be very fulfilling, and Lesley wouldn’t have it any other way.

Lesley’s journey into veterinary medicine began with a high school co-op program, which she successfully completed and was offered a paid position. She went on to attend the University of Guelph, Ridgetown College Campus, graduating with honors from the Veterinary Technology program in 2006. Lesley has worked as a registered veterinary technician for 18 years. She joined the Victoria Road Animal Hospital team as an RVT in 2019 and then transitioned into the hospital manager role in 2024.

Outside of the clinic, Lesley resides with her three daughters and their tiny Yorkie, Bean, who looks like a little wizardly creature with messy hair, despite consistent grooming. No matter how many times you brush him, one shake of the head and he is back to messy hair. Bean is animated and sweet, always ready for an adventure or to snuggle on the couch. He gets attention everywhere he goes due to his small size, weighing in at just 4 lbs.

Gwen

Gwen

Client Care Team Member

After working for many years in a different industry, Gwendolyn decided to take a chance and follow her lifelong dream of helping animals. Today, nearly two decades later, she has no regrets and is grateful to be doing what she loves and pursuing her true calling in life!

Gwendolyn’s journey into the animal care field began at a boarding facility before moving on to Toronto Humane Society. After eight additional years working as a volunteer coordinator at The Guelph Humane Society, Gwendolyn decided to make the switch to the veterinary industry and joined the Victoria Road Animal Hospital team. Professionally, she enjoys helping both people and their pets.

At home, Gwendolyn has a daughter and a dog named Uni, whom she adopted from Guelph Humane Society. Uni is the perfect mix of everything adorable and quirky. If you have one kibble in your hand, he’ll do anything you want. Aside from animals, Gwendolyn’s other interests include camping off the grid, ATVing, canoeing, and hiking. She loves going on adventures and making memories with her family.

Hannah

Hannah

Veterinary Assistant

Despite not being able to have pets of her own due to her siblings’ allergies, Hannah still managed to develop a deep love for animals. When she was a young child, she and her mother happened upon a chipmunk suffering from heatstroke. With her mom’s help, Hannah nursed that critter back to health and released it back to the wild. This experience inspired Hannah to follow her heart and pursue a career caring for sick and injured animals.

Hannah’s journey thus far has involved volunteering at various vet clinics over the past few years. When she moved to Guelph for school, her volunteer work led her to Victoria Road Animal Hospital, where she started assisting in March of 2024. Professionally, Hannah enjoys shadowing and learning about the different roles within the clinic. She especially enjoys observing surgeries and discovering how to assess and diagnose various health issues.

Hannah will be starting a paid role as a veterinary assistant in the summer of 2024. She aspires to one day enroll in vet school and fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. For now, she will continue to learn and gain valuable hands-on experience working with the clients and patients of VRAH.

Michelle

Michelle

Vet Assistant / Client Care

As a child, Michelle’s parents instilled in her a deep love and respect for all animals. Spending time on conservation land while growing up, she was regularly exposed to all different types of wildlife as well as her beloved family pets. After seeing many injured or abandoned animals over the years, Michelle knew she wanted to be a part of the solution—to help educate about the importance of regular veterinary care and responsible pet ownership. In her role here at Victoria Road, Michelle is thrilled to be doing just that!

Michelle’s journey into veterinary medicine began in 1999 right out of college, when she joined the Guelph Humane Society and served as their Feline Care Manager for nearly 20 years. During that time, she simultaneously served as an assistant in the intensive care unit of the OVC from 2008 to 2009. Michelle joined the Victoria Road Animal Hospital family in the fall of 2017, where she loves meeting all the patients and their people – especially those new puppy and kitten visits!

Outside of the clinic, Michelle resides with her husband, their two daughters, and their cat, Rainbow, who seems to be under the impression that she’s a dog. Rainbow loves to cause a little bit of chaos every day and can often be found sleeping in the Barbie dreamhouse when she’s in need of rest. Over the years, Michelle never lost her love of the outdoors, and has successfully passed this passion along to her girls. In the summer, they go hiking as a family and in the winter, you can find them dreaming of the beach.

Tasha

Tasha

Treatment Room Assistant

Tasha got her industry start in the role of veterinary receptionist and has since worked her way up to treatment room assistant. She joined the Victoria Road Animal Hospital family in 2015, during her second year of university, to gain more hands-on experience and decided to stay on. We’re sure glad she did!

Tasha is currently enrolled in the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus, where she’s continuing her education in the field of veterinary medicine with the goal of becoming a registered veterinary technician. At home, Tasha’s world revolves around her boyfriend, Mark, and her two fur kids—a French bulldog named Duke and a Persian cat named Eleanor.
